BCM impact memo on April 2nd, 2025 US Tariff announcement

BCM impact memo on April 2nd, 2025 US Tariff announcement
Dear Valued Customers,

As you may be aware, effective 12:01 AM EDT on April 5, 2025, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will implement a baseline 10% tariff on goods imported from 180 countries under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA).

In addition, a higher reciprocal tariff will take effect at 12:01 AM EDT on April 9, 2025, raising the tariff to 32% on goods imported from Taiwan

You can find additional details in the official White House fact sheet: White House Tariff Announcement – April 2, 2025

We encourage you to check the USTR website regularly for updates: https://ustr.gov

Impact on BCM Products

  1. The majority of BCM products are manufactured in Taiwan and will therefore be subject to the 32% tariffs.
  2. Products sourced from other countries—such as power adapters, peripherals, and certain PCBAs—will be subject to tariffs based on their country of origin.
  3. Products already in BCM’s U.S. inventory or in transit before the tariff effective dates will not incur additional tariffs.
  4. BCM will begin applying the tariff surcharge on affected products beginning April 30, 2025 (21 calendar days after April 9).

Next Steps for Customers

  1. BCM is actively reviewing tariff calculation methods and awaiting further clarification from U.S. authorities.
  2. We are in close contact with our Taiwan teams and monitoring developments related to reciprocal tariff negotiations.
  3. For customers with firm demand, BCM recommends placing stocking orders under the following terms:
    • Orders must be non-cancellable and non-returnable (NCNR)
    • Orders must be shipped and invoiced upon PO issuance or upon goods' arrival at BCM’s warehouse
    • Orders are limited to goods on hand or currently in transit that will clear U.S. Customs prior to the tariff effective dates
    • Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and allocated fairly based on demand
  4. Customers are requested to include a separate line item for tariffs on purchase orders, enabling BCM to invoice the tariff surcharge accordingly.

BCM remains committed to keeping you informed as additional guidance becomes available from USTR and will share updates on tariff calculations once confirmed. For any questions or support, please reach out to your BCM representative directly.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
