Q: I accidentically programmed the BIOS with wrong or bad file, now my system won't boot.

Q: I flashed my VP1543 with the BIOS 1.07 (or 1.08) and it will not work?

BIOS

A: Because the BIOS 1.07 and 1.08 are for VP1541 only. The latest BIOS version for VP1543 is BIOS 1.06.


Q: I have a blown BIOS, where should I go to get a replacement?

BIOS

A: Please contact ACE Computers at (877) 223-2667 for a replacement BIOS chip.


Q: When is the next available BIOS update?

BIOS

A: We will never know the next available BIOS update be. The latest BIOS update is always on our website.


Q: When I boot the system I receive this message: Primary Ide channel no 80 conductor cable installed. Is there a fix for this message?

Boot Up

A: You may have either a defective 80 pin cable, or not using 80 pin cable on an ATA/66 drive and with BIOS set the drive to recognize ATA/66. If you are not using an ATA/66 drive, disable ATA/66 support in the BIOS setup, otherwise replace the cable to an 80 pin cable.


Q: Does ALi have an AGP driver that would support Win NT operating systems?

Driver

A: ALi does not have an AGP driver for WinNT since Win NT (Service Pack 3 or later) does NOT support AGP functions, but only runs as a PCI card in Win NT.


Q: My power supply goes dead after two seconds at power up. Is my power supply going bad?

General

A: More likely yes. Please have your power supply replaced.


Q: I can't seem to get power to the CPU fan using the on board 3-pin connector?

General

A: Two possibilities:

1) Your system did not boot; it requires the BIOS to boot to enable the power to the CPU fan.
2) The CPU fan is either defective or did not get enough current to start the fan properly. (When the fan does not get enough current to start properly, but you can start it by spin it - replace the CPU fan promptly.)


Q: My system clock seems to be slow or stopped working. Is it a problem with my motherboard?

General

A: Yes. But the fix is very easy. Go to any electronic store like Radio Shack and find CR2032 battery. Please follow the instructions carefully:

1) Power down the system if it is not already off.
2) Unplug the system from wall outlet.
3) Remove the system cover.
4) Disconnect the power connector from the motherboard.
5) Carefully remove the CMOS battery (CR2032) from the motherboard and discard it.
6) Install new CR2032 that you bought into the battery holder.
7) Reconnect the power connector.
8) Close the cover, and plug the system.
9) Power up and enter the BIOS settings as you need to re-set the time and date as well as any other configurations there may be lost during the process.


Q: What is the beep codes for Award BIOS?

General

A: Only two beep codes:

1) 2 beeps followed by 3 quick beeps is video memory failure.
2) 1 repeatitive long beep is system memory failure.


Q: I need an IR port for this board. Is this available directly through BCM?

I/O Port

A: No. We are a board manufacturer, not a distributor. We do not manufacture or recommend any IR ports, but we provide the IR pin out information in this FAQ.


Q: What is the purpose of installing the USB Host Controller Supplement V?

I/O Port

A: This program is used to solve the incorrect identification of ALi USB Host Controller under Windows 95 And Windows 95 OSR2. The default icon in Device manager is [Unknown Device->USB Controller]. After running this program, it becomes [USB Controller->ALI M5237 USB Host Controller]. This program will not conflict with MS’s usbsupp.exe, which is used to upgraded Windows from OSR2.1 to OSR2.1.


Q: I have a Sony Spressa USB Burner, it locks up my system every time I try to use it. What is the solution?

I/O Port

A: Please visit www.ali.com.tw for the latest drivers and make sure your BIOS is up to date.


Q: I have tried to install a 1394 Capture Card with the following results, The card and software appears to install correctly and functions properly until I try to acknowledge the camera. Once the camera is initiated it freeze up the computer. I have tried working with the 1394 card manufacturer and replaced the card and drivers with no success. Additionally I have bought a different capture card which installs on the USB port and although it works and does not lock up the computer the capture is poor and drops frames.

I/O Port

A: The USB capture device usually have slower frame rate than the capture card being installed in the system. We have issue with a 1394 Capture Card, the solution to this issue is not determined as of yet.


Q: I have VP1543 but the manual on the web is for VP1541 and the jumper for Vcore is missing JP6 on the manual?

Jumper

A: Yes. JP6 is open for all voltage settings except for 2.0V. When you need to set the Vcore at 2.0V, the JP6, JP7, JP8, and JP9 are close and JP10 is open. Remember: Any voltage settings other than 2.0V, JP6 MUST remains open.


Q: I have VP1543 but the manual on the web is for VP1541 and the jumper for CPU/BUS ratio is missing 5.0s and 5.5x?

A: Yes. For 5.0x: JP1, and JP2 are close, JP3 is open; for 5.5x: JP1 is closed, JP2 and JP3 are open.


Q: I purchased new AMD K6-III/450 and I only get 350MHz, what should I do to get 450MHz?

Microprocessor

A: Two possibilities:

1) BIOS is not up to date: Must be 1.04 or later. The BIOS upgrade can be found in this website.
2) Your CPU multiplier is set incorrectly, set it to 4.5x instead of 3.5x. Refer to Jumper section for this board to get a correct jumper setting.


Q: Is my system capable of taking AMD K6-2/500MHz? My system will not work with it but have to slow down in order to make it work.

Microprocessor

A: Yes. Your CPU may be defective. Please have it replaced. If with a known good CPU and still showing the speed differently or will not boot, two things to be considered: check your jumper settings, and if the jumper settings checks out okay and still having problem, your motherboard may be defective.


Q: I experienced a "Windows Protection Error" after installing a software on my Windows 95. My CPU is AMD K6-2 350MHz. What can I do to fix this?

A: If you are using an AMD K6-2 350MHz and above CPU on Windows 95 (OSR2, OSR2.1, or OSR2.5) Operating System, you can fix this problem by downloading a patch file from AMD. Here is URL address: www.amd.com/products/cpg/k623d/win95_update_k6.html


Q: How do you tell the VP1541 and VP1543 apart if you lost the box and manual?

A: You can idnetify the difference by two ways: 1) Check the ALI M1543C South Bridge chipset version: B0C is for VP1541 and B1D is for VP1543; 2) Board revision B01 or later is for VP1543 and all AXX revision labels is for VP1541.


Q: The UDMA33 does not seem to work on the Aladdin V chipset. Is there any driver that would allow this to work?

A: Yes, you can download the latest version of our IDE Driver from our website.


Q: Which Aladdin chipset supports UDMA66?

A: With new generation south bridge chips, like M1543C-B1, M1535 and M1535D support UDMA66. Note: The formal name for UDMA66 or ATA66 is "UDMA mode 4.


Q: Why am I unable to use my CD writer or Tape drive after installing the ALi Busmaster driver?

Storage Device

A: You can try to download our newest IDE Driver. If it doesn't solve your problem, try dis-ableing DMA mode within device manager under your disk drive properties. If it does not fix your problem, please mail us your CD writer or Tape’s model name. Also the OS version and software you used with your device. We will do our best to give a solution to your problem.


Q: Do I still need to install an ALi IDE driver under Windows2000?

A: ALi recommend the use of Windows2000's default IDE driver if the south bridge you are using is one of the following: M1533, M1543, M1543C A1/B1, M1535 or M1535D.


Q: My Ultra DMA-66 has changed to Ultra DMA-33 after I installed your latest drivers. How can I get it back?

A: You probably don't need the IDE busmaster driver; try uninstalling it and check if Windows will support Ultra DMA-66 with its own native driver.


Q: Is there anyway of overclocking the video on this motherboard?

A: No.


Q: Is there any stability issues with TNT2/Savage 4 chipset?

A: Yes. Until you update the drivers: AGP driver Version 1.65 and IDE driver Version 3.55.


Q: I already installed the necessary ALi AGP driver but still experience problems using AGP card with my Aladdin V chipset based motherboard. Any suggestion?

A: Check your DirectX version, you need to install DirectX 5.0 or later (recent version is recommended). Upgrade recent AGP driver, VGA driver, VGA BIOS and motherboard BIOS. (For more information about BIOS upgrade, please contact the motherboard manufacturer). We recommend users to install their system from scratch to avoid device conflict.


Q: Is it true that Aladdin V chipset based motherboards do not provide enough current/voltage to AGP bus, thus it cannot support “High End” AGP cards like Savage 4, TNT2 or Voodoo 3?

A:  It is not true that Aladdin V chipset based motherboards do not provide enough current/voltage to AGP bus. Aladdin V works robustly with Savage 4 and Voodoo3, although it has slight compatibility issues with TNT2 cards (please try upgrading recent AGP driver and nVIDIA driver).


Q: Microsoft provides a Service Pack 3 that adds support to Win NT operating systems. Does this mean that there is possibility that WinNT does support AGP cards?

A: Service Pack 3 (or later) just support AGP card, but NOT AGP functions. It means that you can use AGP card with NO AGP functions in Win NT.


Q: I can't get my board with AMD K6-2 500MHz and ATI Rage Pro IIC AGP card to boot past the second screen. Help?

A: Known incompatibility issue. Exchange this ATI Rage Pro IIC AGP card with other AGP card is best solution.
