BCM introduces BI260-170QD, Intel Q170 based mini-ITX form factor barebone computer supporting triple displays, rich I/O and expansion interfaces for Self-Serve Kiosks

Case Story:

Company A develops floor standing medical patient check-in terminals for use at hospitals, and clinics providing improved patient service by engaging computing technology that allows patients to self-check-in or access facility information through electronic interactive kiosks. The kiosk requires:

  • A small industrial grade embedded computer that can supports multiple I/O devices including touch screen, secondary display, optional capability to support a third display, card reader, scanner, and receipt printer while delivering Intel Core i5/i3 processor performance.
  • Small form factor is required as the enclosure environment is space constrained.
  • Remote management capability and easy installation are also required for speedy maintenance and reduced system downtime.

Our Solution:

BCM proposed the BI260-170QD, which has the following features to meet the requirements of this application:

Form Factor Small form factor barebone computer measuring 8.6” x 8” x 3” and integrated with MX170QD mini-ITX motherboard inside
CPU Performance The MX170QD mainboard is built on the recent Intel Skylake platform. Socket LGA1151 supports 14nm Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors (scalable performance)
Display Supports triple independent displays via 2 DP ports, LVDS, and HDMI
External I/O Rich I/O interfaces including 4 USB 3.0 and 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 COM ports, audio jacks, 2 Gigabit LAN ports, PS/2 mouse and DC-in for power
Storage Provides one 2.5” SSD/HDD drive bay
Expansion 1 x full/half size mini-PCIe socket with mSATA support and 1 x M.2 (2280 and 2242) socket
Gold Plated Connectors Critical connectors are 30u gold plated pins and locking type. This combination of gold plating and locking ensures superior high speed signal conductivity, wear and corrosion resistance in tough environments, and that critical connections stay connected
