PPC19W-45GM for quick time-to-market Point-of-Sale Application

Note: the figure above is just an example of showing the PPC19W-45GM as a POS system. All other devices are not included in the package.

BCM, a member of the Intel® Embedded Alliance, released our PPC19W-45GM Panel PC in February 2010.  To expand the practical uses for this successful product we are continuing to enhance the base product to support additional applications for key market segments we support such as Point-of-Sale (POS).

The term Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal was created in the late 19 century. It first referred to the storefront or cash registers where merchandises were purchased. Today POS has transformed into a digital computerized platform replacing the traditional checkout process heavily reliant on human interaction by providing more features that makes shopping, dinning, and entertainment experiences smarter, more efficient,  and convenient for consumers and store staff.

POS can be seen in many places including retail, hospitality, healthcare, and entertainment & sporting facilities. There are many different types of POS terminals specialized for retail stores, restaurants, outdoors, and even self service. Each POS system may requires different hardware and software configurations, however, the most common key features required by today’s POS systems are touch screen, rich external I/O, durability, remote manageability, space saving, sleek design, and long life support.

So, why is PPC19W-45GM qualified?

Performance Driven. The PPC19W-45GM is Intel® GM45 based computing system supports Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor providing high speed processing power to handle complicated tasks. With integrated Intel® GMA 4500MHD graphic engine onboard, the system delivers outstanding graphics performance required by majority of multimedia applications.

Extensive I/O interface supporting flexible connections for POS peripherals. The PPC19W-45GM provides rich external I/O interfaces to support multiple POS devices including one COM port, six USB 2.0, HDMI, DVI, VGA, PS/2 connector, dual Gigabit LAN ports and DC 19V power-in connector. The secondary display can serve as a digital sign playing promotional content to the retail store shoppers during checkout and is supported via onboard HDMI, DVI or VGA video outputs. The other peripherals including credit card reader, barcode scanner, receipt/thermal printer and VFD/pole display can be supported via COM or USB connectors.

Touchable Screen. Many high-end POS systems require touch screen interface not only making the order process more efficient but also the benefit of saving valuable retail counter space.

Remote Management. The PPC19W-45GM supports the Intel® Active Management technology (AMT) which enables the IT technicians to remotely manage and update the system via network connections. It helps to reduce system down time as well as cost down the onsite maintenance charges.

Stability. The built-in watchdog timer and H/S monitoring functions help to monitor processor operation and prevent system lock-up if the processor becomes trapped in a drop-dead halt. This feature will generate a reset and ensures the system dependability during unattended operation.

Sleek and Practical Design. Older versions of industrial computers give the stereotypes of a bulky and dull look. Unlike most industrial PPC units designed for the shop floor, the PPC19W-45GM offers a much softer and elegant look suitable for a non-factory environment yet maintains the core features of an industrial and embedded product.

Extended Product Life Support and Strict Revision Control. Being a member of the Intel® Embedded Alliance, BCM receives full support from Intel® for CPU, chipsets components and design technologies.  Each of our industrial motherboards and systems has a life cycle of at least 5-7 years guaranteed and at least 12 months warranty after the products are shipped. BCM is not only delivering world class cost effective industrial motherboards and systems, we also plan ahead for our clients for budgetary saving on future development. This is how we maintain long term relationships with our Fortune 500 OEM/ODM customers.
